What we do
Friends of Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre Association Inc. promotes the interests and facilitates the development and further improvement of the Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre (BIEEC). In pursuit of this objective, Friends provides and assists in the provision of financial or other resources or services for the benefit of students visiting the BIEEC.
BIEEC is a residential education facility operated by Education Queensland. BIEEC has no students of its own. Instead, students from schools all over Queensland, from both the state and private systems, visit BIEEC to learn about the Gladstone area. BIEEC delivers environmental education to the community and co-ordinates citizen science programs by the community. The Centre provides a venue for community environmental groups, such as Gladstone Wildlife Carers, to meet and BIEEC supports these groups by providing the venue at no cost. BIEEC also provides budget accommodation for community groups, such as junior sporting organisations.
Friends meet four times per year to discuss opportunities for fundraising, centre working bees, grant submissions etc.
