Michael Gabriel - Principal

Michael Gabriel

Michael is a secondary trained teacher of health and physical education, science and health with teaching experience across all year levels. He has a passion for the outdoors and is an enthusiastic educator. He has a strong interest in marine environments and outdoor recreation activities.

Kate Larson - Business Manager

Kate has a very bubbly personality and a unique passion and care for the environment. She chooses a sustainable plant based diet as she also has a keen interest in animal welfare and health and wellbeing. She is a valuable member of our team and has a thorough understanding of budgeting to ensure all students that visit the centre have the best possible facilities and resources to access.

Cathy Singh - Teacher

Cathy is a vibrant educator who loves teaching in the outdoors. Her expertise as a primary trained teacher, Cathy has taught all over the state from Far North Qld to the southern end of the Gold Coast. Cathy utilises a range of classroom management tricks and tips and engages her audience through facilitating learning beyond the classroom. 

Ebonny Gabriel - Teacher

Ebonny is a passionate teacher 10 years, 6 of which have been here at Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre. Ebonny is a senior teacher with additional qualifications including Cert III Outdoor Recreation, Bronze medallion, Cert II Maritime Operations and Cert IV Training & Assessment, Remote Area and Advance Resuscitation Certificates. Ebonny thoroughly enjoys teaching in the outdoors and working alongside children of all ages. 

Somone Boston - Teacher

With a Science degree background and also a trained cardiac sonographer, Somone's latest career path as a teacher combines her love for environmental science and education . Originally joining the team at BIEEC through the Project Officer role for Harbour Watch, Somone now works directly with students across all programs at the Centre.

Cassi  - Teacher Aide & Relief Teacher

Cassi is always smiling and laughing and brings a breath of fresh air to the workplace. She is a very organised worker and loves working with children of all different ages. Cassi also assists the Centre at various times throughout the year as our relief Teacher. She has predominantly worked in Primary Schools with students aged 4-8. Cassii has a kind and caring nature with a passion for the outdoors and marine environments.  Her interests include camping, boating, fishing and reading. 

Trudy Heny - Caterer / Cleaner

Trudy Heny

Trudy has brought an abundance of skills to BIEEC, all the way from South Africa. She is an extremely good cook and caters for school camps and visits to our centre. She also excels in her cleaning role ensuring that our centre is spotless for the arrival of our visiting schools. Trudy has an endearing, heart felt laugh, not to be mistaken for any other and is willing to give anything a go.

Tony Vloedmans - Unit Support Officer

In a previous life , Tony was a local cabinetmaker but felt the need to get outdoors and get his hands in the dirt. Tony is a fit and health conscious father of two with a great sense of humour.

 Hayley Threlkeld - Harbour Watch Project Officer

Hayley joins the BIEEC team as the Port Curtis Harbour Watch Project Officer bringing with her a range of skills for the job. After finishing her degree in Environmental Science specialising in Water Quality, she is now tackling an honours degree working in the world of Seagrass. Working in the Citizen Science space is an exciting role for her and a great link to use her skills
