Michael Gabriel - Principal
Michael is a secondary trained teacher of health and physical education, science and health with teaching experience across all year levels. He has a passion for the outdoors and is an enthusiastic educator. He has a strong interest in marine environments and outdoor recreation activities. Michael began his time at the Centre as a teacher in 2014 and been leading the Centre since 2019.
Kate Larson - Business Manager
Kate has a very bubbly personality and a unique passion and care for the environment. She has a keen interest in animal welfare and health and wellbeing. She is a valuable member of our team and has a thorough understanding of budgeting to ensure all students that visit the centre have the best possible facilities and resources to access. Kate has been at the Centre since 2011 as teacher aide and has been the business manager since 2013. She has recently started learning Italian.
Cathy Singh - Teacher
Cathy is a vibrant educator who loves teaching in the outdoors. Her expertise as a primary trained teacher, Cathy has taught all over the state from Far North Qld to the southern end of the Gold Coast. Cathy utilises a range of classroom management tricks and tips and engages her audience through facilitating learning beyond the classroom. Cathy joined the team in 2016.
Ebonny Gabriel - Teacher
Ebonny is a passionate teacher with a love of science in particular biology. Ebonny has recently achieved her nationally recognised Highly Accomplished Teacher (HAT) certification and has presented at the national HALT summit. Ebonny thoroughly enjoys teaching in the outdoors and working alongside children of all ages. She is an incredibly reflective teacher with an eye for detail in our programs and is always looking for ways to improve her practices. Ebonny has been with our team since 2013.
Charlotte Wemmerslager - Teacher
Charlotte is a primary trained teacher with a beautiful personality who genuinely cares about her students. Charlotte has recently joined the team in 2022 and is enjoying her transition to teaching outdoor and environmental education. She brings with her a love of the coastal environment, in particular the beach where she volunteers her time with the surf life saving club.
Karl French - Harbour Watch Project Officer
Karl has been the Project Officer for the Port Curtis Harbour Watch program since 2020. This program engages community and school groups in citizen science of monitoring the water quality of our local harbour, rivers and estuaries. Karl gets to play with some great science equipment and loves facilitating groups of all ages out in the field. Karl comes with extensive experience in the science arena previously working with the local university and conservation volunteers Australia. Nicole Miles - Teacher Aide
Nicole began her time with us in 2021 and is an enthusiastic and vibrant addition to the BIEEC team bringing an array of skills and experience. Previously roles in early childhood and marketing, ensures her teacher aide role at BIEEC is dynamic, creative and invaluable with what she can offer. You will find her working with students, crunching data, modifying our website, printing, getting creative with logos and resources for programs and looking for any opportunity to make a cake or use her Cricut machine.
Emily Byrne - Cleaner
Emily joined the BIEEC team in 2022. With her passion for maintaining a pristine environment, and always fuelled with iced coffee, Emily brings a unique blend of dedication and warmth to our centre. As a devoted netball and footy mum, she understands the importance of teamwork and her hard work at our centre always shine through. Emily ensures that every corner of our facility reflects the stunning outdoor environment that we are privileged to work in every day.
Mal McCracken - Unit Support Officer
Mal is our jovial Unit Support Officer who is always looking for an opportunity to have a laugh and throw some banter, joining our team in 2022. With an enormous and often complex job of looking after the grounds, playing handyman and Mr fix-it, tackling projects, maintaining equipment and often playing part in programs as
a safety officer on boats or hikes, everyday is a little different. Mal loves to have a chat to the staff and students and in his spare time you might find him pounding the pavement on a run or exploring a new mountain to climb.
Peter Jackson - Groundsman
Introducing Peter, our centre groundsman. With a toolbox of skills and a passion for keeping things running smoothly, Peter ensures that every aspect of our space is as well-maintained as it is welcoming. From tending to our bush landscapes to maintaining the infrastructure that supports our centre's activities, Peter's expertise shines through in every corner. His knack for fixing things extends beyond pipes and wires, encompassing a diverse range of tasks that make our centre thrive.
