Year 1 - Habitat hunters

PublishingPageContent

Habitat hunters is a year 1 day program where students explore the external features of living things and the habitats they live in. Students arrive and are giving their 'habitat hunter' badge to initiate them in the role of being a habitat hunter. Students embark on two main activities for the day – learning about the needs of animals and their external features then learning about habitats and the effect of change.

Students explore the Centre grounds and complete the iPad animal adventure activity. Equipped with iPads, students explore the Centre looking for the resident animal models and their QR codes. Once scanned these sculptures come to life through video, informing students of important facts of external features and their needs!

The next activity has students exploring rainforests and mangrove environments nearby and exploring different habitats. The day finishes with reflection and debrief of their learning outcomes, followed by a Wildlife presentation to look at external features of real life animals and reptiles.
